Klaus is shutting down

Thank you for being part of Klaus.

After careful consideration, we have decided to wind down the Klaus service. We want to give you everything you need to transition smoothly, including time to export your data.

Key dates

Where to go next

Klaus is built on OpenClaw, an open-source project we do not own. Because the software is free and open, you can keep your assistant running after Klaus shuts down. There are two paths, depending on how hands-on you want to be. If you would rather start fresh with a different assistant, see Anthropic Cowork below.

Run it yourself

You can host OpenClaw on your own computer or a small cloud server and bring your assistant with you, including its memory, skills, and full chat history. There is a one-line installer, plus Docker and other options.

Three steps to move over:

  1. Install OpenClaw on your machine or server using the install guide.
  2. Export your data from Klaus. The export gives you a recovery prompt: copy it and paste it into your new OpenClaw, and your assistant pulls in the archive itself, restoring your workspace, skills, and chat history without touching the fresh setup, then walks you through the rest.
  3. Reconnect your channels (Slack, Telegram, WhatsApp, iMessage, and so on). These do not carry over, because the logins belonged to Klaus. The export includes a SELF-HOST guide that lists exactly which ones to reconnect.

A small always-on cloud server runs roughly $5 to $12 a month. Note that this is the server cost only. You also pay your AI provider (such as Anthropic or OpenAI) directly for usage, which is typically the larger part of the bill. iMessage needs a Mac that stays signed in.

Want the technical details on how OpenClaw moves between machines? See docs.openclaw.ai/install/migrating.

Use a managed host

If you would rather not run a server, KiloClaw ($55/month) is an independent company that hosts OpenClaw for you.

We are not affiliated with this provider and cannot support them. Please review their current pricing and supported channels before you sign up.

Try Anthropic Cowork

If you are open to a different assistant rather than moving your OpenClaw setup, take a look at Anthropic Cowork. It is Anthropic's own agentic workspace, where Claude works alongside you on multi-step tasks, connecting to your apps and files to research, draft, and get work done. It will not carry over your Klaus history, but it is a fully managed alternative.

Billing

We are winding down all subscriptions, so you will not be charged beyond your current billing period. Klaus stays free to use until the service shuts down, so you have until then to export your data and move over at no cost.

Your export includes your OpenRouter API key with any purchased credits still on it, so your assistant keeps running on that balance after you move.
